As of April 10, 2025, travelers from the United States, Canada, and Australia are now required to obtain a visa to enter Brazil for tourism or business purposes. This marks a significant policy shift, reversing a visa waiver introduced in 2019.

Fortunately, the visa process is relatively simple and fully online. Eligible travelers can apply for an e-Visa via the official portal:
👉 brazil.vfsevisa.com

If all requirements are met, applicants typically receive their e-Visa by email within just a few days.

✍️ What You’ll Need to Apply for the Brazilian e-Visa:

To ensure your application is processed smoothly, make sure you have the following:

  • Valid Passport: Must be signed, valid through the end of your trip, and contain at least 2 blank visa pages.

  • Visa Application Form: Must be completed online through the e-Visa portal.

  • Passport-style Digital Photo: Standard 2” x 2” size, with a white background.

  • E-Visa Fee Payment: A processing fee of US$ 80.90 applies and must be paid online at the time of application.

🌍 Who Needs a Visa?

Only travelers from Australia, Canada, and the United States are affected by this change. Citizens of most European, South American, and Central American countries do not need a visa for short-term tourism or business visits.

🛂 Passport Validity for All Travelers

Regardless of your visa status, all visitors to Brazil must hold a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of arrival. Your passport will serve as your main form of identification in Brazil and will be required for domestic flights, hotel check-ins, and more.
