A lot of people arriving in São Paulo’s GRU Airport has questions on where to go, which terminal to use, etc. Here are some information that may help you:
The airport: GRU stands for Guarulhos, which is a city adjacent to São Paulo. It’s widely known as São Paulo Int’l Airport, but it’s actually in Guarulhos. That’s the airport all international flights arrive and the one we use for our domestic flights for our tours as well.
The terminals: The airport has 3 terminals, but we normally only use terminals 3 and 2. Terminal 3 is the international terminal and where you flight from abroad will arrive and depart. Terminal 2 is mostly for domestic flights and eventually for some international flights within South America. Terminal 1 is only used by Azul Airlines for domestic flights and the only way to get there is by car or bus. The airport offers this free bus service every 15 minutes or so.
How to move from one terminal to another: A lot of people have questions on how to go from Terminal 3 to 2 or vice versa. It’s easy and you can go walking from inside the airport, there are clear signs on how to do it in portuguese and english. There is a connection between the two terminals as you can see on the picture below. The walking distance is about 300 meters from one terminal to the other and a car or bus is not needed to move terminals.
Arrivals and departures: Arrivals are always on the first floor, while departures are on the second floor for Terminal 2 and third floor for Terminal 3. The connection between the terminals is on the second floor. The second floor on Terminal 3 has some shops, restaurants, etc.
Taxi: The official airport taxi, called Guarucoop Taxi, is safe and professional. They have booths located on the street on both Terminals 2 and 3 and you can pay your ride with a credit card at those booths. The average price for rides to hotels near the airport is around BRL 60.
Hotel shuttle: Most hotels near the airport offer free bus shuttle to/from the airport. These normally pass every 30 minutes to an hour and at Terminal 3 they stop on the third lane, left-hand side; while on Terminal 2 they stop at a bus station located there, on the right-hand side of the terminal.
